From as long as I can remember, all I really wanted in life was to be a Mummy. I didn’t care much for dolls like Barbie, but I had a life-size baby doll, Elizabeth, who I cared for dearly, pretending to be her Mama.
I was lucky enough to meet a wonderful man who I married shortly before my dear Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer. To our surprise, I became pregnant on our honeymoon, and given my stage 3-4 endometriosis, this was quite a wonderful surprise. It was such an incredible time, but it was short-lived. We lost our beautiful boy at 23 weeks, only a few months before my Dad died… our wonderful dream had turned into a terrible nightmare.
What followed was a journey that tested us both to our limits. Positively, I learned how resilient and resourceful I could be but, understandably, I broke several times, and so did my husband. Thankfully our marriage was solid, and we pulled each other out from the darkness.
I have always loved to help people. I naturally gravitate toward those in need, and they seem comfortable approaching me. Sharing our story and using what I learned to help others in similar situations is something that drives me. I simply love to help people.
The journey that my husband and I took, is incredibly difficult to summarise, but it looks something like this:
- Late miscarriage (23 weeks)
- Over aggressive D&C resulting in severe Asherman’s Syndrome (uterine scarring)
- Multiple surgeries for Asherman’s and previously also for endometriosis
- IVFs/ICSI – 16 Clinics – 5 (in 5 different countries – 3 different continents)
- Gestational surrogate relationships – 5 amazing, incredible women!
- One beautiful daughter, the sunshine of our lives
While we were fortunate to have our happy ending, I wouldn’t wish such a long and difficult road on anyone. Our journey was far harder than it needed to be. There were times we felt completely alone, and I wish we’d had the kind of support and guidance I’m now able to offer.
Equipped with my experience, knowledge and skills, I help others maximise their chances of success and shorten their paths to parenthood, walking beside them, holding their hands through the darkness.
